Me and Elder Jones had organized a community event where a bunch of people showed up to play in a basketball tournament! There's just so many kids everywhere in the areas we serve in and one of the best ways to bring everyone in the area together is through sports.
On Wednesday we spent a lot of time going around and inviting people to the event. We went to the farthest corner of our area where we could put fliers. While we were doing that, we got to talk to some people actually so it actually turned into a pretty great finding activity as well! The turnout for the tournament was insane! SO many kids were there and we all played some basketball games while a bunch of ward members were there to cheer and serve food. It was a huge success! I think one of the best successes was that I got major blisters that I don't want to attach a picture to show you.
Gilbert was there too! And we had our next lesson with him just the day before when we taught him the Plan of Salvation. In the middle of the lesson he told us he was just "Absorbing it in." Which makes sense why. It's sometimes hard to understand every point of the lessons we teach. And we invited him to pray for guidance on trying to get a feel for each thing we teach him. But it went really great and he came to church on Sunday! So did Chance!
Our next lesson with Chance also went great. He still has a lot of questions but he gets them answered. His main obstacle was that he hasn't really prayed on his own yet. We made that his goal for the week. I'm glad that we have made a pretty cool relationship with the current people we're teaching.
We got to see Marsha this week! She said that she's been out of town. She asked us what it feels like to have your question answered when you pray and ask if the church is the true church. We told her that her answer will come to her in a way that she will understand because God knows her for who she is. And she wants to meet up again sometime to talk more! We're stoked that we're talking to Marsha again. I have no idea what happened last time.
Remember our friend Russel? He is doing a project on his house and we got to go help him and the construction crew dig some trenches and get dirty. It was pretty fun not gonna lie. It felt like I was at work with my dad. But the fun part was that we had to rush over to Kalaheo afterwards for the car wash. So we had a lot of service that day and were pretty tired.
We got to FINALLY catch up with Gwen! She has been super swamped with school work and tests (which I totally understand coming from BYU) and she said that she wanted her dad to meet a friend in the ward so that she could go to activities.
So that's how my awesome week has been! I think the main message I've learned this week was that God will always speak to us and teach us in ways that we would understand. It doesn't even matter when or how He tells us, it's always for our better understanding. So always be patient and pray that you will understand when the Lord will finally speak to you.
Hope you all had a great week! Aloha!
- Love, Elder Nielsen
